Leadlights are... decorative windows made of small glass sections mosaic’d by lead cames. They include stained glass so often found in ornate coloured-glass windows of churches or other elegant buildings. But more often ‘leadlight’ is associated with the windows of vernacular architecture, defined by its simplicity.
Different pieces... perhaps even broken or discarded, are brought together. It is a blend of materials dense and heavy, yet incredibly malleable that enables an entirely new creation to emerge. One that is both beautiful and functional. Allowing view out and light to shine through and illuminate everything within.
In the earliest days of lighthouses... ‘leadlights’ were common and necessary to produce often unique conical shapes. Glass pieces fashioned together anew, led the way. Kept us safe. Guided our journey.
